Godfathers of Kenyan punk ‘Crystal Axis’ Back Again With A New Jam

Crystal Axis is a five-piece Nairobi based punk band often referred to as the ‘godfathers of Kenyan punk’. Their sound is a unique blend of punk, grunge and alternative rock. After a five year hiatus, Crystal Axis have made a triumphant return to the music scene and they have seamlessly picked up where they left off. The return to the Kenyan rock scene with a devastating new single titled ‘Leopold’.

‘Leopold’ is an African musical narrative illustrating the plight and struggles of the African people. The single was spurred by the lack of dialogue in the role the Western world has played towards the colonisation and plundered of African countries. Through this single, Crystal Axis aim to put across a thought provoking message that will make the listener critically think about the state of Africa.

They cite influences such as Nirvana, Green Day, Bad Brains and My Chemical Romance. This kind of music in Kenya is not in the mainstream but make no mistake it has a following. The band will be making their debut performance in ‘Nyege nyege Festival’  tomorrow hitting the stage at 7pm Kenyan time.
