Suba Community Are Experiencing Trouble Acquiring Identity Cards 54 Years After Independence

The idea that ones citizenship is not a right but a privilege is like outright persecution especially if you are born in the country. In Kenya acquiring citizen is based in the constitution chapter three and article 14 deals with being born of Kenyan parents.

14.
(1) A person is a citizen by birth if on the day of the person’s birth, whether or not the person is born in Kenya, either the mother or father of the person is a citizen.
(2) Clause (1) applies equally to a person born before the effective date, whether or not the person was born in Kenya, if either the mother or father of the person is or was a citizen.
This constitution is being trampled in impunity as the Suba people living within Homabay county are experiencing difficulties in acquiring  identity cards. Here is a facebook post of one of the member of the Suba community
